Side income is a fantastic way to start reaching some of your financial goals. Whether it be to pay off debt, save for a vacation, stop living paycheck to paycheck or even to start investing with, side hustles can get you there much quicker. And there are hundreds of different ways to make decent money on top of your regular income, which makes it easy for everyone to find one that works best for them.
Having different side hustles has helped me in so many ways (which I will discuss later on in this post) and I am excited for you to get started! I have chosen a few that I have tried and know are easy to get started with. I truly believe that you can make a good side income with the ones I have listed below and hope you can pick one that works for you!
Ready. Set. Hustle!
1) Start an eBay Business
If you know my story at all, then you know that starting an eBay business started off as a side hustle for me, but then quickly became one of my full-time businesses. When my husband and I were looking for ways to start building up our income online, we stumbled across starting an eBay store and have been doing it ever since!
We started by listing items from around our house that we didn’t use anymore and after we made a few hundred dollars, we decided to reinvest what we made back into the business by sourcing for more products. (By “sourcing”, I mean that we go to garage sales, thrift stores, and buy items in bulk from other sellers and flip them on eBay for a higher price.) Last month we made $1,696.16 and we only put in about 5-10 hours per week.
Starting up an eBay account is extremely easy and you can start selling items from around your house to start. If you want to make it into a larger business, you can source for products and start flipping them for a profit!
2) Start a blog
I will say that starting a blog can be one of the best side hustles if you are interested in making money online. You will need a topic/niche, a good hosting company (Bluehost is the best, more on this in a second), and the willingness to put in some research and time!
Blogs mostly make money by running ads, affiliate marketing, and sponsored posts. Some bloggers even make over six figures per MONTH using these methods. Wow!
You don’t need to be an “expert” to start either. You can start by picking a topic or niche that you are interested in and start doing some research on different posts you can write about. You will also need a hosting company to host your domain if you want to actually monetize your blog and make it look professional. I highly recommend Bluehost for this, because they are one of the best hosting companies on the market. With my link, you can start up a blog for as low as $3.95 per month and get a free domain name for your first year!
3) Focus groups
I have been doing focus groups for years now and I love them! A focus group is market research company that seeks out individuals to help them conduct online and in-person studies on different topics.
For example, I have been a part of focus groups where I made up to $250 for one hour of sitting in a room with other people talking about personal relationships. I have also been chosen for other groups to provide my opinion on commercials, office buildings, and to test out phone apps. These can actually be really fun, and you can make quite a bit of money if you stay consistent with applying for them. Here is a list of my favorite companies where you can apply for focus group:
If you are someone who loves to give your opinion, being a part of focus groups may be right up your alley!
4) Freelance on Fiverr
You can easily learn certain skills and then advertise yourself on websites like Fiverr! Some ideas include:
- Virtual Assisting (VA)
- Graphic Design
- Freelance Writing
- eBook Writing
- Voice Over Artist
- Digital Marketing
- And so many more!
You might need to start small and only charge around $5 or so for your services at first, but once you build up your brand you can charge much, MUCH more. Some people are earning 6-figures and more by doing this!
5) Deliver for Postmates
Postmates is a service where people can order food, drinks and desserts and have it delivered to their doorstep. You can make some good money delivering those items! They allow you to deliver by vehicle, bicycle, scooter or even a motorcycle and you can earn up to $25 per hour!
6) Amazon Flex
This one is similar to delivering food, but you deliver Amazon packages instead. I have done this one a few times to test it out and it can definitely earn you some good side cash! You can earn between $18-$25 doing this.
All you need to do is sign up on the Amazon Flex website and you can start within a few days. You will need a reliable vehicle and a smartphone to download the app and you will be ready to go!
7) Write and publish eBooks/Audiobooks
Writing an ebook and/or audiobook online is not only a great side hustle, but can also make you passive income (making money without having to trade your time or money). You could write your book on almost anything and start making sales without having to actually put in a ton of time to keep it going!
8) Walk dogs with the Wag app
If you are a pet lover or love to get out and about, starting a dog walking business can be a lot of fun! The Wag app makes it easy to sign up to start finding people in your area who are willing to pay you to walk their dogs. It sounds like a dream job to me!
9) Babysit or become a nanny
This was one of my first side hustles ever. One summer I made around $5,000 by babysitting full time. As a teenager.
You might be thinking that babysitting or nanny-ing is a job that’s only for teenagers, but I know more and more people who are looking to hire qualified, trustworthy adults to leave their kids with while they are away.
10) Start a Youtube Channel
Getting in front of a camera is not for everyone, but starting a YouTube channel is also a great way to make some side income. This one does, however, take some time to build up an audience and trust. But after you reach a certain amount of followers, you can start monetizing through ads and affiliate marketing.
As stated before, side hustles can be an amazing way to make some side income to start reaching your financial goals quicker. Let me know in a comment if you have tried any of these methods or if you plan to give them a shot!
