What you do in the morning will usually set the tone for the rest of your day.
Your morning routine is the first thing you do when you get out of bed, and how you spend it can determine how productive your day turns out.
Starting your day right is key. Therefore, implementing productive habits into your morning routine will give you the solid base you need to build upon for the rest of the day.
Here are five morning habits that can keep you productive and start your day off right!
Let’s get started!
1. Start your day the night before
Waking up early is hard enough. Don’t make it harder for yourself by going to sleep late. IF you make it a goal to be in bed before 10 pm, it will ensure that you get sufficient rest, and don’t wake up tired.
And before you sleep, you should also prepare for the next day. To do this, you could:
- Set out your clothes for the next day
- Have everything you need for work laid out or already packed in your bag
- Write out your personal and business goals for the next day
- Plan and schedule what you need to get done for the next day
- Meal prep and make your breakfast/lunch ahead of time
Taking care of all these the night before, will free up more time for your morning, and save you some physical and mental effort.
It will also keep you on track in case something goes wrong in the morning that pushes your schedule back. We’ve all had those days, you’re not alone!
2. Get Hydrated
It’s been at least six hours since you’ve gotten a sip of water, so when you wake up, you will already be extremely dehydrated.
Most people will start their day with a great big mug full of coffee without even taking a sip of water. But it’s important to start your day right by giving your body the right nourishment to help you function throughout the day.
A large glass of water in the morning provides so many amazing benefits! I try to drink a full glass of water in the morning to get me going and it makes me feel amazing.
If a tall glass of plain water doesn’t sound appetizing first thing in the morning, you could try to add lemon or fruit to give it an extra kick and help it go down easier.
Getting hydrated first thing in the morning will revitalize you and get your day started on the right foot. And hydrating yourself first thing in the morning will usually make you feel better throughout your entire day!
3. Make your bed after you wake up
This may seem tedious and straightforward, but making your bed does a lot for your mental state.
A made bed makes your space (and mind) uncluttered, so you feel less stressed. Since making your bed is also technically a chore, you feel a sense of accomplishment for achieving the first task of your day. This will motivate you to accomplish the next task, and the next, and the one after that.
When you return from a long day of work, having a neat, clean, uncluttered bed to fall into, is also an unmatched joy. So, create your first win of the day by making your bed!
4. Take a break from distractions
Social media, emails, text messages, calendar notifications… The chaos of your day can start with just a quick glance at your phone.
Don’t begin your day by getting sucked in and drowned in the distractions you are trying to avoid. Don’t start your day by going through your phone, emails or putting on the TV.
Sit in silence for a few moments to meditate and reflect upon the day ahead. Focus on yourself for a few minutes and prepare your mind for the day you wish to have, and all the tasks that come with it. This helps you to center yourself, strengthens your mind, and places you in a better position to conquer your day.
Your morning exercise does not have to be heavy and rigorous.
You don’t have to run thirty miles or lift weights for two hours. It can be just a few stretches, a brisk ten-minute walk, or a 2-minute plank.
Exercising in the morning will get your blood pumping, and send endorphins (good hormones) coursing through you. Aside from long-term health benefits, regular exercise in the morning is a great way to shake off lethargy and get going for the day!
Healthy morning habits not only help you to cultivate a healthy routine, but they also positively impact your energy and mood. Build as many productive habits as you can into your morning routine for a turbo boost in efficiency and productivity.
